The Morphe brand claims to be cruelty-free, but whether they are seems to remain a mystery. When asked if they are cruelty-free, they only ever seem to respond about their animal testing policies, which doesn’t give customers much clarification.
They claim that they do not test any of their products or any of the ingredients within these products on animals. They have also confirmed that they do not test any of their finished products on animals, and that none of their suppliers test on animals either.
Morphe also states that there are no third parties involved with the company that test on animals on their behalf. This is also the main reason that they do not sell their products in mainland China, as this is a country that makes it difficult to regulate where your products are being tested.
Morphe is a private company that does not have any parent company at this time, so they are in full control of their products and testing regulations. As of now, this company is not associated with any countries that are required to test on animals by law.
However, to say that they are cruelty-free is a big statement considering the fact that they give no evidence to back up these claims.
There is no legally agreed definition of the term ‘cruelty-free’, so Morphe could in fact claim that they are cruelty-free by their own definition, whatever that might be.
Something that is interesting to know is that Morphe is not certified as cruelty-free by PETA.
Is Morphe Vegan?
Morphe is not specifically vegan, but they do offer certain products that are labeled as vegan. The only products that they have that are labeled as vegan are a selection of cosmetics and makeup brushes and a few additional skincare products.
Unfortunately, there is no dedicated page on their website that explains their vegan and cruelty-free policies, so it is really difficult to find out more about their products.
So, even though they have a wide variety of vegan products available on their website, you can’t find out much about their policies.
However, it is clear that Morphe is not interested in becoming a vegan brand, though you can choose from a selection of vegan products.
One of the best things about their website is that there is a specific page where you can access all of their vegan products, which makes it easier to find the products you are looking for. Some of their popular vegan products include:
- Artistry palettes
- Setting and refreshing mists
- Foundation primers, liquid foundations, and concealers
- Eyeliners color pencils, and color creams,
- Lipstick, lip glosses, and liners,
- A range of vegan products from other brands, including BYBI, Sweet Chef, and Frank Body skincare items.
You can easily find and access the vegan beauty products through their website, and there is a huge selection for you to choose from.
They are inclusive when it comes to vegan products, but they do also sell products that are not by any means suitable for vegans. If you are ever unsure, check the ingredients of the product before you purchase it.
Something that you should know is that the liquid lipsticks by Morphe contain beeswax and carmine, which means that they are not vegan.
Is Morphe an Ethical Company?
It is difficult to say whether or not Morphe is an ethical company due to the lack of information that they are able to provide.
This is why they are often placed in the ‘gray zone’ because while they claim to be cruelty-free, there is no evidence or certifications to back up the claim.
Without such evidence, it is tricky to figure out if they are ethical as a whole. They might not test on animals, but there are many other things that need to be taken into consideration.
When contacted about their claims, the company seems to give vague answers to questions, and that is when they respond at all. There isn’t much information to go off, which makes it difficult to trust the brand.
Ultimately, it is up to you to consider all the available information and decide if you want to support them.
Something that is always worth considering when it comes to cruelty-free brands is the certifications that they uphold.
Currently, Morphe is not supported by leading organizations like PETA, so their claims cannot be found to be 100% credible. Essentially, you have to take their word for it.
In terms of their packaging, Morphe uses both cardboard and plastic packaging to ship out their orders in.
Does Morphe Test on Animals?
The only statement that Morphe has on their website regarding animal testing is the following:
“Morphe does not condone animal testing in any way. We do not test any of our products on animals. We also do not test any of our ingredients on animals, nor do we allow our manufacturers to do so on our behalf. Instead, we choose to test drive our products on people (with their permission, of course).”
So, while they have a short statement that covers their animal testing values, there is no factual evidence to back up their claims. There are no thorough policies to read through, like with many other brands, which makes it difficult to know what to believe.
Are Morphe Products Toxic?
Morphe products are not toxic, but as with most other brands, there are some things that you should be aware of when it comes to the ingredients that they are using.
Morphe does not give out any information about whether their products are paraben-free, so you should always check the ingredients if this is something that you want to avoid.
Morphe also does not state if their products are free from phthalates, but it does seem that some of their products are free of them.
If you are looking for phthalates in products, you should keep an eye out for phthalate, DEP, DBP, and DEHP. Morphe is also not an organic company, and they do not claim to be.
