I was SO excited when I ordered my very first bamboo pillow! I had read so many great reviews and lots of blogs about the benefits of using a bamboo pillow (especially as an asthmatic, being hypoallergenic was a huge selling point for me, personally) so I was a bit bummed when I found it went flat kinda quickly. Eek. Not really what I was after…

I didn’t really understand why this had happened, so I started my mission to find the core reason this happens, as well as the best solution to this problem. If you’re struggling to understand why your bamboo pillow is flat, then I hope you find my answers as helpful to you as they have been to me!

Why Do Bamboo Pillows Go Flat?

There are two reasons bamboo pillows are flat: One is from use, and the other reason is simply receiving it flat in delivery. The great news is both are normal and both have easy fixes.

Bamboo pillows (and pretty much any sort of pillow) will begin to flatten due to compression from the weight of our heads, as well as the accumulation of moisture that naturally occurs from your body. If you live in an environment with higher humidity, or tend to run hot like my husband does, then this may increase how quickly it begins to flatten – good to know!

The best solution is to regularly leave your pillow in the sun to air out, or by using a dryer every so often to ensure it is well dried out, reshaped and refluffed. A quick kneading of your pillow is probably a good idea too whenever you make your bed.

Why Is My Bamboo Pillow Flat When First Purchased?

Bamboo pillows are often shipped vacuum sealed, as it is much more cost effective for the company – and you – to send out this way. It also helps prevent damages in transit. Is there anything worse than receiving your order in the mail only to see it was damaged in transit to you?
