Is Mario Badescu Cruelty Free?

Last Updated on April 9, 2021 by Eco Elsie

While the Mario Basescu brand has been making and selling skincare products for many decades, the past few years have been instrumental in making Mario Badescu a household name.

Thanks to the ever-growing popularity of social media, Mario Badescu products have gained a cult following online and are often endorsed and supported by celebrities and influencers.

Their products are praised by the likes of Kylie Jenner and even Serena Williams, who loves how fresh Mario Badescu products keep her skin as she plays sport.

One of the main reasons why Mario Badescu products stand out from other products is that they combine old-school pharmaceutical-inspired packaging with ambiguous product names such as Drying Lotion and Silver Powder. Mr. Badescu himself was a cosmetic chemist and aesthetician.

In the 1980s their first Facial Spray was introduced, and it was made using Aloe, Herbs, and Rosewater.

Throughout the years the spray was always a well-loved product amongst hardcore Badescu fans, but it wasn’t until the last few years when their facial mists have really struck a chord with the general public.

But is Mario Badescu Cruelty Free?

Is Mario Badescu Cruelty Free?

Yes! The Mario Badescu brand has confirmed that it is truly and entirely cruelty-free.

This means that they don’t test any of their finished products or ingredients on animals, and neither do their suppliers or any third-party distributors. They also refuse to sell their products in countries that require animal testing by law, such as China.

Fortunately, Mario Badescu is one of only a handful of brands that have been cruelty-free since its conception and remain cruelty-free to this day.

The brand also claims that they ask all of their raw material vendors to sign a declaration that they do not, and will not test on animals. However, this doesn’t hold much value.

These declarations may just be something that cosmetic brand’s legal departments include in correspondence to cover themselves if something goes wrong.

They essentially state that regardless of this declaration, they ultimately have no control over the actions of the raw materials vendors.

Is Mario Badescu Vegan?

While the Mario Badescu brand is completely cruelty-free, it is not 100% vegan, which means that some of their products will contain animal-derived ingredients. The brand is open about this, and have previously stated:

Some of our products do contain ingredients which are derived from animals such as egg whites, bee pollen, honey extract, lanolin, and lactic acid. Although we do have some products that are free of animal by-products, we are not a vegan facility.

Unfortunately, the brand has no vegan section on its website. If you want more information about the ingredients that go into Mario Badescu products, we recommend that you check the product labels and lists of ingredients first before making a purchase.

You could also contact the brand’s customer service for more information. The company’s policy on being cruelty-free sets a good foundation in its journey to being 100% vegan if that is the route it chooses to go.

Is Mario Badescu an Ethical Company?

Mario Badescu is manufactured in the U.S. The brand Mario Badescu doesn’t do any manufacturing in China. The brand also claims that it has strict quality control over the procedures and the materials used.

Mario Badescu manufactures its products in the U.S before shipping them to different parts of the world. The brand sources the ingredients used to make the products from suppliers and manufacturers who are also cruelty-free.

Mario Badescu is a brand known for its minimal use of packaging when it comes to sustainability.

Many vegans and environmentalists praise the brand for trying to reduce the use of plastic packaging. Also, some of their bottles are made from recyclable plastic.

Does Mario Badescu Test on Animals?

No, Mario Badescu products are not tested on animals as the brand is 100% cruelty free. This means that all of their finished products, formulas and ingredients are not tested on animals by anyone, anywhere in the world.

Additionally, third parties do not test Mario Badescu products on animals, and the brand will never pay them to do so.

Mario Badescu also refuses to sell its products in mainland China, or in any other country where animal testing is still required by law. This is what they had to say about it on their website:

Mario Badescu does not test our products or ingredients on animals, nor do we ask others to test on our behalf.

However, it is important to note that the Mario Badescu brand has not been Leaping Bunny Certified or any other cruelty-free organization for that matter.

But they’re very open and transparent about this, which makes us trust the brand a little more. It is more than reasonable to conclude that Mario Badescu is a cruelty-free brand as they do not test on animals.

Perhaps in the future, they will become certified to re-assure their customers of their cruelty-free status.

Are Mario Badescu Products Toxic?

While the Mario Badescu brand is not entirely organic or natural, the company does indicate that they only use safe ingredients when making their products.

If you were looking for something specifically natural, they do sell a handful of paraben-free products. Parabens are controversial compounds often used in the making of cosmetics.

Mario Badescu’s famous Facial Spray has actually been deemed as toxic by Think Dirty App. It scored an 8 out of 10, 10 being the most toxic and 0 being the safest.

The main reason for this is because it contains fragrant phenoxyethanol, which is known to cause skin and lung problems. Also, it can be toxic to different organs like the kidney and liver.

However, when used in such small quantities as in skincare, there’s very little risk. But if you’d rather not chance it, we suggest opting for their all-natural and organic products instead.
